My artistic projects are connected to the contemporary reality issues and reflect themes such as: feminism/feminality relation, identity aspects, analysis of gestures and elements in the socio-cultural structure of feminality.

One of my art work based on a feminist concept is a video named “Flashes of identity”. Itis focused on the idea of transformation at psycho-individual level. I connected my body toexternal influences represented symbolically by decorative elements as blades, roses, coins,attached to or eliminated from the body surface by a repetitive movement.The series of works “Memory layers” involved references to my body and reflects multiple facesof identity and introspections.

“Flashes of identity” is a project about identity, and also about intimacy.

Simona Dobrescu’s pertinent analysis extends to the complex problems of the genre in thepersonal identity – social identity relation. Key associations as flower-woman, nature-likewoman, woman as an object to be used, contemplated and changed are speaking about the lackof interest for particular characters in detriment of diversity and identity, a reality still relevantat the level of contemporary prejudices about the genre.

Simona Dobrescu becomes aware of her emotions and intimacy on the background of socio-cultural experience. Made as a boudoir scene, the video intervention, as the entire project, givesthe impression of an indiscreet glance through the keyhole. What comes out is the woman in anatypical privacy/intimacy moment, the clothes and underclothes are replaced by other suggestivelayers of privacy, the carvings which fit closely on the protagonist’s body complete a ritual witha serious conceptual density.
